Adventure – Flyin’ High!

Adventure Village jumped right into some tent activity time first thing this morning and then spent time flying high through the trees with the zipline or leap of faith high elements. A group also learned morse code from one of our Armenian counselors and skate boarded.

One of the campers asked to do some village improvement/reconstruction which sparked huge interested from the rest of the campers, so the counselors put it on the schedule for this afternoon. Campers divided into groups and made a plaque out of rock – renaming their field space to “Bud’s Field” after the Adventure Department Founder (who still works here at Frost Valley – on year number 50 something of being an employee!!). Other campers made a rock oven for outdoor fire cooking, added rocks and sticks for pathways, learned useful knots and completed other odds and ends around the village.

Our village just finished up a classic game of Ultimate Sicko Ball (USB) – a Frost Valley original game that is easiest to describe as a four-way capture the flag game played in a large field with the entire older half of camp. Some say the red team won – but that’s up for debate from the Green, White and Black teams!

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director.
