Adventure Staff Training 2016

Staff Training is upon us! Adventure Village Counselors and Trip Leaders are now entering their final week of Staff Training as they prepare for the campers to arrive. In order to prepare, the staff have been practicing their hard skills and some even went through a week-long, intensive WFR (Wilderness First Responder) course, which they all passed with flying colors.

Last week, the staff went on a three day, two night backpacking trip here in the Catskills, where they practiced their hard skills and bonded as a team.  The weather was sunny and the staff hiked back onto camp with smiling faces as they prepared to pack in at the new Bud Cox Trip Center for the first time.  The trip was made that much easier thanks to the new Trip Center, as pack out and pack in had never been quicker.

This week, the staff will practice their soft skills, plan activities, and prepare for their trips as they gear up for the campers’ arrival on Sunday.

Adventure is out there!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
