Adventure Village Campers Adventure in the Adventurous Woods!

Today was most certainly one of the most eventful of the session thus far! As day dawned upon the canvas homes of our fearless and intrepid adventurers, the rays instilled in them  a vigor and resilience not uncommon to those that dwell long in the wilds of the Northeast. Rising to greet the day, and to seize it, the campers donned their hardiest composure to greet the task of toiling through the interminable forests beyond Frost Valley camp proper.

Splitting into three bands, our heroes endeavored to scout the surrounding wilds in one fell swoop. The first group, strong and swift, departed due south along the deserted and mysterious mountain-path that once, in ages long past, served to unite us with our Farm Camp kin. The second scouting-party took it upon themselves to delve into the deep and enchanted deciduous forest beyond the Eastern terminus of the lush and green fields of Frost Valley. The third, noble and cunning, braved the harsh slopes of Doubletop Mountain in a bid to make the summit, so that the features of the greater area (as well as the rough paths of the other parties) could be ascertained.

The forested southern hills were no match for the first group: Issuing from the woods into the fertile valley, the young men and women greeted with exclamations of joy our friends long sundered by the obstacles presented by the elements. The second group of explorers fared as well with their task. Cunning warriors of renown, these explorers plunged into Eastern wilderness, returning with tales of glens, wooded streams, and deep places whose beauty has rarely been bestowed upon the eyes of men and women. The third wood-wise group of scouts not only determined the geography and topography of the valley, but were gifted with a rare experience. Upon returning to the Dining Hall to feast in honor of their persevering bodies, the chanting squad held up a token of their experience: the rest of camp was awed when they beheld the scarred scrap of metal in the hands of the band’s fearless leader. The act propelled the hearts of the audience towards these conquerors, simultaneously sending waves of reverence through them as the shard of the lost airplane on Doubletop captured their gaze.

United again, Adventure village feasted with mirth, soon to return to their beds. Knowing that they have indeed seized the day, the sleep they will suffer to take hold of them early will imprint in their minds forever the images of such a monumental day.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
