Homesickness is a real and normal feeling to experience while away at Summer Camp. At Frost Valley YMCA, most of our overnight campers are at camp for 12 days, making homesickness a very common experience for our campers. With that being said, our staff have learned countless of ways to help our campers overcome homesickness and enjoy the session despite the homesick feelings. Check out our new video to see just how we tackle homesickness at camp, featuring the Frost Valley Staff and Campers!

Wow! What a day at Frost Valley YMCA! We have been so lucky for so many reasons! Not only did the rain go away, but the sun came out and we had such beautiful weather all day. Because the sun came out, many of our campers got to go on their Overnight. They ate pita pizzas on the campfire for dinner, and are currently eating smores and getting ready to sleep in their sleeping bags under the stars. For all of those not on overnights tonight, we had a #OneCamp Dinner tonight in the Dining Hall! Every overnight camping department ate dinner together, and we sure did make it special. […]

We just had the most amazing closing campfire for Wawayanda Session 2. Our counselors sang sweet songs, the sky was a beautiful pink and blue cloud-scape, and the fire was warm and glowing. We have had the most amazing session and we are so sad to see everyone leave, but are happy knowing that we will see you all again next summer!

We are so happy that yesterday was the start of Session 2! During Devo last night, we set expectations for how we are going to treat one another and ourselves while at camp! We are super excited about the caring, respectful, silly group of campers that we have here for the session. We can already tell it is going to be full of fun, energy, new friends, and lots of laughs! Take a look at some of the expectations we set last night in our cabins!

After a day of alien invasions, herstory lessons, cardio activity, and dinosaurs on the loose, we celebrated with our messy face contest at Spaghetti night! Here are the winners from each village, the winner being Ava from Susky! We ended the night with the Science Dance under a big rainbow that showed up in the sky after our dinner time rain shower. It was one of the best camp days we’ve ever had!

Woowie! Wawayanda had a busy day of name games, pizza eating, and settling into camp. After we learned about the options in our dining hall at dinner, our campers headed to opening campfire for our traditional first night evening activity. In addition to watching the village staff perform their skits, we were lucky enough to hear a song from Al. Below are some pictures from the evening. We’re beyond excited for the next two weeks! Bring on Wawa 2017! -Lindsay & Hannah

Dear Wawayanda Campers and Families,   Hello from the beautiful Catskill Mountains! Summer Camp Training is in full swing and all of our Wawayanda head counselors (we like to call them Village Chiefs) are so excited to make this summer the best one yet. On Sunday night, we surprised our Wawayanda Village Chiefs by taking them to Merrill Pavilion for an Overnight full of s’mores, nature exploration, and team bonding. Since all of our campers have an Overnight experience during their time at Frost Valley YMCA, our Village Chiefs made sure to practice their pita pizza-making technique! As you’ll soon learn, Wawa is a place where we’re proud, silly, and […]
