Every time Lauren Eufemia Italiano pulls onto Frost Valley Road, she is transported to her childhood. She reminisces about her first visit to Frost Valley YMCA in the early 1980’s, while on a trip to her family’s home in the Catskills. After stumbling upon the camp during a long car ride, her parents offered to send her as a camper the following summer. She eagerly obliged and returned back as a camper for the next four years, then as a CiT and finally as a counselor. Homesickness is a real and normal feeling to experience while away at Summer Camp. At Frost Valley YMCA, most of our overnight campers are at camp for 12 days, making homesickness a very common experience for our campers. With that being said, our staff have learned countless of ways to help our campers overcome homesickness and enjoy the session despite the homesick feelings. Wow! What a day at Frost Valley YMCA! We have been so lucky for so many reasons! Not only did the rain go away, but the sun came out and we had such beautiful weather all day. Because the sun came out, many of our campers got to go on their Overnight. They ate pita pizzas on the campfire for dinner, and are currently eating smores and getting ready to sleep in their sleeping bags under the stars.
