Homesickness is a real and normal feeling to experience while away at Summer Camp. At Frost Valley YMCA, most of our overnight campers are at camp for 12 days, making homesickness a very common experience for our campers. With that being said, our staff have learned countless of ways to help our campers overcome homesickness and enjoy the session despite the homesick feelings. They did it…!  Your young survivors made it out.  The weather overnight was very cooperative.  It was cooler, but they were all nice and toasty in their bags.  They had their opportunities to challenge themselves with the high falls rappel.  Many of them discovered small and large fears of heights.  We let them know how healthy it is to have fears and be able to recognize them.  That is the only way that you will know how to overcome them.  They all have great attitudes and have been asking tons of questions about the 2 week BG Teen summer camp program next summer.  We would love to see them all […]

Today our campers started into their overnight journey through the woods.  For the first 3 days of their camp experience, they all learned a variety of survival skills that they can use for this overnight.  They will need to demonstrate their talents in fire building, water purification, shelter building, hiking, navigation, map reading, and working together as a team.  They will make their way through the Catskill wild forest to High Falls.  There they will have the opportunity to rappel down the waterfall to their “rescue point”.  Most of time, this is highlight and the biggest challenge of their camp experience.  They finish with a heightened sense of confidence, self […]
