Chills and Thrills in Adventure Village

What started as a dreary day with rain and thunder, blossomed into a beautiful day here at Frost Valley.  In Adventure Village, we did our best to enjoy the beautiful weather.  This morning we started with a break out period where the kids can sign up for an activity of their choice.  The kids could choose between the Giant’s Swing, a high ropes activity where the kids can safely swing 45 feet  through the trees, Philosophy with Ian, where the kids get the opportunity to discuss nature, stewardship, the local wildlife and the principals of leave no trace and the final activity they could sign up for was a boggle-esque word game called “Stop the Bus.”

Second period the younger members of our village played a stealth game in which the kids had to be as quiet as deer as they stalked our favorite activities counselor, Matt. The older kids played an activity with the CIT’s  (Counselors in Training) which was a cross between dodge ball and freeze dance.

The afternoon started with another break out period. The kids had the options of fire building with Mini-MAC, the Leap of Faith, another high ropes activity, and Being British with Beth, an activity where the kids can learn “How to be British” with our resident Brit, Beth.

For fourth period the kids had the option to choose between a creeking adventure and going to our lovely waterfront. For evening activity, the kids are playing a thrilling game called Killer in the Castle.  In the dark, the kids slowly and meticulously eliminate each other from the game.

After a day full of adventurous choices and an evening of thrills and fun the kids are off to bed to prepare themselves for another amazing day tomorrow.

Happy Trails,

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
