Who will be running my Road Scholar trip at East Valley Ranch?

All of our trips are staffed with a program coordinator who oversees the program, food service, and guest services. This staff person is on call 24 hours a day and will accompany all trips to different locations. In addition, we hire specialists to teach our programs. We keep a high ratio of staff to participants to ensure you have an amazing experience.

Will there be cell service and wifi at East Valley Ranch?

Unfortunately, East Valley Ranch does not have any kind of cell service. We do have limited wireless in the dining hall for accessing email and Facebook. East Valley Ranch is a great place to unplug and truly enjoy a week in the Catskills.

What if I do not want to participate in an activity during the week?

All participants will receive a copy of the final program schedule at dinner after check-in. We request that if you would like to participate in an activity, you show up on time and prepared. Guests who do not show up for an activity, will be considered as “opting out” of that activity. We have a wide ranch of hikes and programs that guests can feel free to try on their own if they would not like to participate in a scheduled activity.

Are many of the Road Scholar guests returning or new?

We have a range of new and returning participants based on each program type and date. Our spring fly fishing programs tend to have about 60% returners, while hiking programs tend to be mostly new participants. Is there transportation available from the airport to East Valley Ranch?

We do provide airport pick-ups and drop-offs at several airports. If you need to coordinate transportation, please contact us at least two weeks prior to your trip so we can assist in making arrangements.

What happens if the weather is bad during my trip?

We try to maintain the program as scheduled which is why we ask that all participants are prepared to be outdoors. We do plan a “weather alternative” schedule for each program which includes trips to local museums, history tours, and historical information. Usually the weather clears up rapidly and we can resume normal programming.
