3 canoes on lake cole

EVR 2-Weekers put their feet in the stirrups!

EVR is already in full swing of session two, and the girls were all very excited to find out their horse assignments for the session yesterday morning! The girls all got to meet and ride their own horse yesterday, and had a ground lesson! Their ground lessons are times when they can learn about the horses, but from the ground. Their ground lesson today was about different parts of the horse, and yesterday’s was on breeds and colours of horses. They then put into practice at the barn using their knowledge on which breed and colour each horse was! The girls are already really enjoying learning lots and there are lots of other fun things to come!

When the girls aren’t riding or spending time at the barn grooming, tacking or having ground lessons – they’re always somewhere else doing something else super fun!! The girls all have a chance to go to waterfront everyday where they can relax and read, hangout with their friends, and of course cool off and go in the stream SWIMMING!! They have also had time at arts & crafts where they got to use all their creativity in decorating their own Nalgene water bottles with all the paint, glitter and ideas they could think of! They all look awesome!! The girls also had a chance to learn how to make different friendship bracelets at arts & crafts!

Last night our evening programme was WELLS FARGO!! It was a huge hit with the girls and they’re already asking when they can play it again! It involves two teams, where each team has some gold in each of their banks that the other team can steal and win. However everyone also has a sock attached to them, which can also be stolen, but once you lose a sock, you’re frozen until somebody gives you a sock they have collected back. Everyone loved this game because you can chose a strategy that suits you – meaning everyone got involved and had a great evening of fun!!

Today is their second day riding their newly assigned horse and they are all doing so well!! They have been learning about their individual horse, and how each horse is different. They have been working on controlling their horses with starting and stopping, and have gone onto more challenging steering by doing circles, reverses and changing the rein!! It’s only the second day and they are all doing a super job at controlling and getting to know their own horses!!

Today we have had a team-building period to help the girls get to know each other better by doing shelter building!! The girls get into teams and have a challenge of trying to make themselves a shelter in the forest!! Each team worked really well together and all managed to get into each shelter too!

Each day the girls get a chance to either have hangout time or turn out time. Half of the girls this week will do one, and then next week they will switch so everybody gets a chance to do everything! During hangout time there are different activities, which the girls can choose from, and each day it varies on the interests of the campers! We have lots of fun things to choose from, yesterday the girls go to choice from: Gaga Ball, Kan Jam, Indian Chief and Pictionary!! The other half of the girls do ‘turn out’ and stable management. This is when we turn out the horses to the pasture after they have been ridden and clean and reset the barn ready for the next day!!

Along with our super busy fun schedule, before our evening programme tonight the camp store is coming! The girls always get so excited at looking at all the new exciting things the store has to offer and they are all already talking about the souvenirs they’re going to buy to take home!!
