A day of Sunshine and Smiles!!

Today was the first full day with the sun out and not a drop of rain. You could actually see the relief in the kids and counselors faces.

They started the morning off with some tent time doing what ever they wanted. Some wrote letters home or just relaxed while others played basketball and other games. Adventure village then teamed up with Lenape, another village at camp, and played a capture the flag type game around camp. Others went into the woods and had supervised solo time. Solo time is a great time to reflect on your experiences and do what you please. Some made a fort, others really tried to meditate, and others really became aware of their surroundings explored what was under the fallen leaves. The kids really enjoyed that activity.

After lunch, they split up and did different activities.  Some tested their artistic abilities and made candles for awhile. Another group got their feet wet and explored the Biscuit Brook while creeking. They explored under rocks and around the next bend with this adventure. Another group tested their wings on the Giant Swing. They Giant Swing is a part of the ropes course where a camper is hoisted into the air and then released. When release the camper makes a large swinging motion through the air. This is one of our more popular areas of the ropes course and it certainly was today with Adventure Village. Each kid had a smile on their face after each one of these activities and were looking forward to their next activity in the village

The village then reunited to play Cooking with the Dutchess. This entails people randomly grabbing 3 ingredients and trying to create their best possible dish with those ingredients. They then present their dish to the Dutchess and others on the panel who decide who had the most creative and delicious dish. Everyone was so creative with their dishes that the panel couldn’t decide and declared it a tie.

They then ended the evening with an intense game of dodge ball and music. Everyone had a blast and they were able to get out that last bit of energy before they went back to their tents and went to bed.

It was a great day in Adventure Village with the sun out and we hope the weather cooperate so we can have many many more this session.

Happy Trails,

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
