Thursday the group picked leaders of the day, which happed to be Daniel, Elllie, and Jake. Jake stepped up and navigated. This was both exciting and fun for them to take on a lead position in the days activities . The trip leaders wanted everyone to be more accountable for their gear. The group took to it right away and started to call each other on things that would normally be caught by their trip leaders. Most of the rest of the day was spent canoeing and stopping to eat (a huge meal) and stretch. That evening they made port and camped for the night.
On Friday the trip leaders were Robin, Kendall, and Emma. They lead the group in a couple of practice sea rescues and also lead one of our larger canoe portages. This day Ryu was given responsibility of being the timekeeper. Ryu stepped up considerably and was a very strong paddler. The group finally met up with the one and only Bud Cox for their pick up, and were transported to Keene Valley for their climbing. That night they were in charge of making their own dinner. The food was split up into two groups, to prepare a pasta dish with alfredo sauce. One of the groups got their powdered alfredo sauce mixed up with their pancake mix and had pancake pasta (which they ate and enjoyed?!). The rest of the night was spent preparing for the day ahead.
Early Saturday it rained a bit but everyone played out in it and had fun. When things died down they met up with the climb outfitter and began their afternoon. Everyone had a turn climbing (quite a few times) also everyone had a chance to backup belay, which the group seemed to enjoy. Ed was very afraid of heights and attempted a climb and had fun he set a goal to climb again on Sunday. The climb wasn’t easy it was on an incline with a very steep edge. It topped off at about 85 ft high, and everyone attempted. Robin was very proud that he got to belay Sheldon, one of our trip leaders. The day ended with a regular meal (not a pancake pasta). Sunday should prove a good day the group agreed to wake up at 5:00 am to get a jump on the day and get a good day of climbing in.
