We arrived at Meadowbrook Campground around 3:00 yesterday and had camp set up in no time. After some frisbee and gathering firewood, the cook crew prepared our dinner of rice & beans burritos. A small shower decided to greet us while we were eating, but the weather has been great otherwise. The shower just gave us a chance to make sure our tarp was in proper working order.

I was awakened from my hammock by an annoying branch that mysteriously had moved right onto my nose (thanks Zach). After some delicious oatmeal, the crew packed up for their hike up Ampersand Mountain. This peak has some of the best views in the Adirondacks and some steep hiking to get there. After being around these guys and gals yesterday, I think they have enough energy to get there (see the photo ‘o the day). Check back in a couple of days for more updates and photos!

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.

Been thinking of you a LOT, Audrey. Nice to see you in the photo, burrito firmly in hand! Wonder what, if anything, you’re doing for the 4th. Here it looks like rain, unfortunately maybe just in time for the evening fireworks. Hope it’s not too wet for you there……. Have fun!

Hey Tommy, Pepper and Bo slept right on top of us last night because of the thunder and lightning. Hope you did not experience the same, but if you did it might have been pretty cool.

Still thinking of you all the time and hope you are having the time of your life!!! Can’t wait to hear ALLLL about it.

  • (oops – last message was for habitat group!)
hope the ramblers are doing well too!

  • Hey buddy,
Kieth is gone at a camp from 10:30 to 3:00 and without you it’s really quiet. Margarita has not been extra needy. You need to give her moe attention. I’m sure that you have not even had time to miss us. Week number 1 went really slow. Living with 2 brothers made it easy to think of games for 3 people but it’s hard to find games for two much less 1. I miss you and I hope your having a grreat time at Frost Valley.
