Dear Journal,

Summer camp at Frost Valley has FINALLY begun!!  All the trips left this morning without a hitch.  Some campers a little more awake than others, as all but the Wilderness Skill Builder left well before breakfast.  (Wilderness Skill Builder had only a 45 minute drive and enjoyed a few extra winks of sleep…)

Sunday afternoon, the trips were busy preparing for building houses in Maine (Habitat Maine), backpacking and canoeing in the ‘dacks (Boots n’ Boats), backpacking & canoeing in the Catskills (Wilderness Skill Builder), and rafting in wild West Virginia (WV Whitewater).  The kitchen was busy packing food and Smith had lots of foot traffic, as gear was being distributed to everyone!  The smell of GORP, pasta, and pepperoni lingered well until evening.

As I stood back and observed the situation at hand, I couldn’t help but have goosebumps and chills run up and down my spine.  Everyone was glowing with excitement and anticipation of what is to come!  I have never seen a group of campers work so efficiently to make sure no prep task was left unturned!

As bellies are now full of pizza, pasta, or rice & beans, I am excited to hear from everyone in the next few days….

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
