Stewards of the Trash!

Today was another sunny day in Adventure Village. The heat was a reminder for all of us to lather on the sunscreen, stay hydrated and enjoy the shade. Our Advillans started the day off spending some quality time with their tent-mates and Counselors. In the morning, Campers took time to center themselves and relax after a fun filled start to the session. We escaped the hot sun down by the creak and enjoyed stretching and meditation with Maggie.

Once we had time to relax, we joined the rest of camp for “Clean the City”. Campers, Counselors and Counselors -in-Training adorned themselves in trash bags worn as messenger bags, fanny packs and cloaks while picking up trash and chanting variations of “we want your trash” and “stewardship”. Pieces of trash were dropped from office windows as the group of Frost Valley stewards paraded through camp triumphantly; proud of the important work they were doing to keep our camp clean.

The remainder of the day consisted of some traditional Frost Valley activities, such as playing Jeronimo with Al Fileris- a game similar to musical chairs.

After a delicious dinner, AdVillans set off for their first overnight of the session at their secret camp spot. The location is top secret, as only AdVill campers and counselors know how to find it. Campers enjoyed a thought provoking devotion led by Dylan, their Village chief; before drifting off into deep sleep under the bright starry sky.

Russell started his time at Frost Valley as a camper in Forest Village in 2005 and has been here ever since. He was a camper in Adventure Village, Farm Camp, and on Teen Adventure Trips before becoming an AiT and eventually a staff member in Adventure Village. He worked as the Village Coordinator for Adventure Village before working as the Assistant Adventure Director for two summers. He is very excited to be working as Adventure Director for the first time this year.
