Bareback Day and Theme Day!

We started off our weekend with some field games out on the soccer field. The girls enjoyed the lovely weather. Then we headed back to make a fire at out lodge and make banana boats! Bananas stuffed with marshmallows and chocolate, wrapped in tin foil, and put in the fire for it all to melt together – delicious!

After lunch we had BAREBACK DAY! The girls headed down to the barn for a surprise. They all got to ride their horses without saddles! They had a lesson just like normal, but without a saddle. This helps improve the girls riding and definitely helps with the girls posture and balance while riding. They also were able to show groom their horses and then get their faces painted!

For dinner, it was Eat With You’re Face Night! They had spaghetti with marinara sauce and meatballs. Then the girls joined in on the messiest face contest! For Evening Program the girls went on a night hike with one of our awesome Adventure staff. The hike took them down to the river for rock painting and on their way back they got to cross the river using one of our cable bridges!

On Sunday we had our very own Theme Day! It was Spirit themed. Spirit is a movie that we watch here in Mustang about a wild horse who narrates a section of his life. First we had a sleep in before our Sunday brunch. On Sunday, brunch consisted of: waffles, chicken nuggets, and ice cream! The girls loved it!

After Brunch we headed back to the lodge to get ready for THEME DAYY! We all got dressed up as horses and headed down to the barn as a herd. First we showed the girls a training technique that we use here. We put our own Spirit, in the round pen and our director, Emily, showed the girls how to gain his trust! Then we searched around the barn for clues in our scavenger hunt!

After rest hour, the girls headed back down to the barn to continue our theme day and get in the “train” (hay wagon) to do some relays in the arena! The girls were laughing and smiling as they ran around the barrels. Then we “ran away” from the train and went to go play water games!! We finished our night off with some capture the flag and other running games to represent how Spirit is free in the end of the film.

Today we headed to the low ropes course for our morning activity. The girls showed their skills swinging from rope to rope. They all zoomed through each element. All the girls on the ground were spotting the girls on the elements and giving out tips and hints as to how to get across.

We hopped on our horses today and everyone had a chance to ride! The girls were happy to get back on after the horses’ day off. They could then continue to ride their own horse, back in their riding lessons. After our riding lesson, they went up to the classroom and drew their dream horse and dream barn.

We just had our evening program, which was a continuation of yesterday’s theme day. We watched Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Their eyes were glued to the screen as they watched Spirit on his adventures!

Note: We were having technical difficulties with our photos. Sorry for any inconveniences.
