Farm camp is alive and buzzing with all of our first session campers! The campers spent the afternoon settling in and getting to know their yurt groups. After a few name games and ice breakers, each yurt headed out to do a tour of Farm Camp. The tour included a snapshot of the garden with all of the delicious plants that are starting to ripen and get ready for harvest, a quick tour of the barn to meet the animals, and the swimming hole.
That evening, many yurts put together skits and songs for our very first opening campfire of the summer! Many campers also performed skits, songs, and told stories by themselves. At the end of the day, every yurt did devotion before bed. Devotion is a time for campers to wind down and reflect on their day.
On Monday, all of camp was up bright and early at 7:15 for their first day of chores. Each yurt is assigned a chore to do before breakfast and after dinner. Some of the chores are collecting eggs, feeding the animals, cleaning stalls, setting up the dining hall, weeding in the garden, and helping camp beautiful. After a delicious breakfast, we broke out into our specialty groups: Garden, Introduction to the Barn, Crocheting and Knitting, Sports and Games, Nature Art, and Mindfulness. Each camper will get to participate in these activities for a whole week!
In the afternoon all of Farm Camp got to go to the swimming hole. Tomorrow we will split between swimming and boating! Our evening program was a game called Boppers. The campers had to run around and complete challenges while learning the counselor’s names. Everyone is having a lot of fun getting to know all of the counselors and animals. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store!
