Our farrier (a person who maintains a horses hooves) Walter Varcoe, came to Frost Valley yesterday. He gave the girls demonstrations on types of issues horses have with their hooves, how to trim and balance a hoof, and how to replace a horse shoe. Girls had a chance to see first hand what is involved in the care and maintenance of all of our horses feet, and some of them learned some interesting details about their own horses hooves! Horses need new shoes about every 8 weeks, and without good hoof care a horse will be sore and cannot be ridden…which is a very important fact for every rider to know.
