Almaz Zelleke

My connection with Frost Valley began as a parent of two summer campers in 2012. Both kids enjoyed many summers there in residence camp, adventure trips, and service trips, and one continues to be involved as a counselor. Both Leo (21) and Marina (18) are now in college.

Our family lived in China from 2014-17, while my husband, Clay Shirky, and I taught at NYU’s Shanghai campus. We moved back to our home in New York City, my hometown. My job takes me back to NYU Shanghai two or three times a year.

I am a professor of political science with a focus on political philosophy, social welfare policy, and feminist theory. I have a deep commitment to broadening
access to opportunities for human and social capital development for all members of society–a mission that aligns with that of Frost Valley. Frost Valley has been a wonderful experience for my own children, and I’m glad to be able to give back by serving as a trustee and using my contacts to bring new faces to Frost Valley as campers, counselors, and supporters.
