Adventure Trips are on their Way!!!

Today is always a big day at the Bud Cox Trip Center! There is a consistent buzz of excitement, nervousness, and curiosity through the air as our trips prep for their big Adventure. We use this time to make sure we are ready as a team and that we have everything they need. They spend half the day setting expectations and doing team building initiatives and then spend the other half packing out gear and food for the entirety of their trip! Its a busy day but one of my favorites!

Maine Coast started their journey yesterday and will arrive today at Bar Harbor! They are about to embark on 3 days of climbing followed by 3 days of kayaking with a couple of free days in between. Excited for this group to explore all the beauty of Acadia National Park.

Vermont Voyager is off to explore the great shores of Lake Champlain. They will be spend 4 days learning to kayak and ending their trip with 3 days of kayaking!

The Long Trail Backpacker started their journey this morning and will begin their 9 day backpacking portion today. It’s destined to be a trip of building skills, confidence, leadership and life time of memories.

AiTs are off on their journey to becoming future staff members. They will start off with a Leave No Trace Trainer course followed by a 5 day backpacking trip and 3 day climbing trip. This trip is the beginning of their 4 week experience as they make the transition from campers to counselor. They will focus on how to make risk management decisions, manage behavior in the field and teach the technical skills of camping. Excited to see their transformation when they return.

These trips will all return next Wednesday and Thursday and I can’t wait to see the pictures and hear the stories when they return!

Happy Trails to them all!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
