An Inside Look at Frost Valley’s Global Citizen Day Camp

In order to give campers and parents an inside look at Frost Valley’s Global Citizen Day Camp, Marina Esteve Wagstaff, Community Programs Director, answered some questions parents and campers might have about this specialty day camp.

1. Who is this camp suited for?

“This specialty camp is best suited for children entering grades 3-5 in September who enjoy learning about new countries and cultures. If your child is curious about traveling or understanding the wider world around them then this will be a great fit for them.”

2. What kinds of things will campers be learning about other countries?

“Campers will ‘visit’ a new country each day. On their travels they can expect to learn about the language, culture, and traditions of that country through a range of hands-on activities, projects and games.”

3. What activities will they participate in that will teach them about other customs/traditions practiced in other areas of the world?

“Campers might taste foods, play traditional games, or try their hand at language learning. They might be able to interview someone from that country, replicate a local craft or hear a typical story from the country of the day.”

4. How does this incorporate Frost Valley’s core values: Caring, Community, Diversity, Honesty, Inclusiveness, Respect, Responsibility, and Stewardship?

“Campers will learn about all the core values throughout their week with us as they are at the forefront of everything we do. Global Citizen will specifically focus on how to be inclusive towards all cultures and customs. It will also help children to celebrate the diversity of our world whilst also teaching respect for their wider communities.”

5. Will campers get a chance to participate in traditional camp activities? If so, which ones?

“Of course! Campers will spend the morning focusing on their specialty area. Then after lunch they can expect to take part in traditional activities such as hiking, swimming, shelter building, gaga and many other Frost Valley favorites.”

6. Is there anything else camper parents should know about this camp?

“Campers will be spending the majority of the day outside unless there is inclement weather so please make sure they bring a reusable mask, water bottle, sunscreen and sensible shoes.”
