An Inside Look at Frost Valley’s New Shoot For The Stars Day Camp
In order to give campers and parents an inside look at Frost Valley’s Shoot for the Stars Day Camp, Community Programs Director Jessie Emmons answered some questions parents and campers might have about this specialty day camp.
1. What will the campers be learning about?
“Campers in grades 1-3 will be learning about the stars, the sun, and the planets in our solar system.”
2. How much time will campers spend in the observatory?
“We hope to visit the observatory every day. Campers will learn about telescopes and how they work.”
3. Is there an educational lesson that goes along with rocket building?
“We will talk about the rocket launches and our visits to the moon. Building a rocket is also a fun STEM activity. They will follow directions to build a rocket that will shoot high into the air.”
4. Will they be brining the rocket they build home with them?
“We will be launching these rockets so as long as we can retrieve them depending on where they land, the camper will get to take their rocket home.”
5. Will campers participate in other camp activities besides astronomy? If so, which ones?
“While Astronomy is the main focus of their day, campers will have 1 or 2 periods each day that are dedicated to traditional camp activities. They will also get to join the rest of camp during waterfront time between 2-3:30 p.m.”
6. Is there anything else camper parents should know about this camp?
“This is an introductory astronomy program designed to spark campers’ curiosity about our solar system. Campers will spend a lot of time discussing stars and space and letting their imaginations take flight.”
