The trips are back at camp! Everyone has returned safely to camp and are excited to share their experience with their friends.  After 3 or 4 nights in the woods backpacking, canoeing, or climbing campers have returned full of smiles, stories, new friendships and a few more bug bites! It was a perfect mix of sunshine and rain, keeping them all on their toes and having a true wilderness experience. Here are a few photos from the trips!

The Adventure Village Mini-trips have left camp to begin their adventures in the Adirondacks and the Catskills! Everyone is so excited to challenge themselves and learn new skills while in the backcountry. The Merrell Pavilion and Catskill Backpacking groups will be out hiking until Tuesday. The Rock Climbing and Adirondack trips will be out canoeing, climbing, or hiking until Wednesday. We can’t wait to hear about the meaningful experiences they have and incredible stories they will share! Here are the group photos before leaving for their trips.

What a great day we had in the village today! Last night we had our customary opening campfire where campers did a trust walk, sang songs, and talked about what Adventure means to us. Today they learned how to build fires safely, learned some Adventure Village cheers, and gave their preferences for the Mini-Trips. Everyone is so excited for what the rest of the session has in store! In the evening, the Adventure Counselors in Training (AiTs) ran a challenge night activity and everyone had a blast!

The trips have left for their adventures! Trips had full days yesterday packing their food and gear and getting to know each other, they were all in high spirits and was excited to get on the road this morning! They will be out on trail for the next 8 days and will return to camp next Wednesday with incredible stories and meaning experiences to share.

Everyone is back from their trips and getting ready to go finish the session! Pictures should be up on Smugmug by the end of the day. The Adventure Village mini-trips have started! Trips left early this morning from the trip center to start their adventures in the Adirondacks, the Catskills, and the Shawangunks. Everyone’s first day on trail went very well, all the skills they learned in the first week of the session will now be put into practice! Trips will return on Tuesday and Wednesday with incredible new stories to tell and new experiences to learn from. We will update the blog again when they all come back, until then they will be out on trail having an amazing time!

This morning, we learned how to cook with camping stoves and had a cooking competition to test our new skills. Each group was given ingredients and cooking equipment to make the meal of their choice. We had some guest judges come to see how their creations turned out. Now everyone will be ready to make dinner on their mini-trips!

Yesterday, the Village went on day hikes to some of our favorite spots in the Catskills. We split into three groups, one hiked to the Frost Valley Farm, one hiked Doubletop Mountain, and one hiked to Giant’s Ledge. Everyone had a great time and it was great practice for our mini-trips!

It was a beautiful day for our first full day of Adventure Village and we certainly made the most of it! The first morning is always a good time to set a positive tone for the session and get excited for all the great things to come. In the morning, campers signed up for their mini-trips and learned camp cheers. Campers grades 5-7 chose backpacking or rock climbing, and campers grades 8 & 9 chose between backpacking or canoeing in the Adirondacks.
