This morning we sent off five trips on their mini-adventures! The village has gone exploring the Shawangunks, the Adirondacks, and the Catskills. Whether it’s canoeing, backpacking, or climbing, we were so excited to send them off and we will be even more psyched to see them when they come home to camp on Tuesday or Wednesday. Below are some of their early morning send off pictures! picture2 picture1 picture And what have they been doing for the last couple of days? Dancing in the rain! Or playing/jumping/creeking in the rain; generally, making the best of the weather. In the patches of sun we’ve had, the village has been able to […]

Our adventure trips are off! After a mellow opening campfire on Sunday night, and a busy pack-out on Monday, our Maine Coast and West Virginia Trips headed out for their 2 week adventures Monday afternoon. Close behind them was the one-week try it trip that is in for a fun climbing adventure. This morning we said goodbye to our Vermont Voyagers, off to sail on Lake Champlain, and our Catskill Trail Builders who are going to do some good service work giving back to the area we live in. We’re so excited for all of them! From here on out, for trips, no news is good news! We’ll post a […]

We’ve been making the best of some rain by playing in the mud and having a grand old time. In the early afternoon yesterday Adventure Village played one of my favorite games of all time; Ultimate Turbo Kickball. All the bases are fully loaded with Mud, Paint, and all sorts of materials to get silly and dirty with. In the morning, the village got to do some zip lining and ropes elements, and then we had a big cook-off with our backcountry stoves. As one of the judges, I can safely say that I’ve never tasted such creative pancake-pizza hybrids! We rounded out the day with some creek time. Today, […]

Yesterday Adventure Village really embodied our vibe of getting comfortable being silly and having fun! They started the day off with an activity called “The Council” which involved some gentle pranking and running around camp. We also perfected our tarp skills (the counselors checked on the durability of the skills by pouring water over the tarps!) and after lunch we mainstreamed with STEP to build some woodland shelters. We also got nice and cooled off while exploring our backyard creek, and then we had a wild and adventurous game of Wells Fargo (a modified capture the flag) in which Hemlock village joined us. Today, the campers have been true adventurers, […]

Our Adventure Trips are off! Maine Coast left yesterday to save themselves some driving time; after a night at a Boston Campground, they are on their way to Maine! The rest of our trips left early this morning, traveling to the Habitat for Humanity site in the Catskills, the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and the Long Trail in Vermont. We are so excited for them, especially after getting to know all of them during our entertaining Opening Campfire on Sunday and a day of packing out and team building yesterday. I already saw some new friendships beginning, and lots of warm laughter. From here on out, no news is […]

The village is settling into the routine of camp now and coalescing as a group nicely. We have a lot of newcomers this session which is really exciting for us. We started activities off yesterday with a lesson in fire building, an Adventure tradition. We definitely have some budding fire starters! We also got oriented to the waterfront, which was a nice break from the heat. Finishing off the night, we played some French Revolution; a mix of hide and seek, capture the flag, and tag! Today we’re learning some tent set ups, running an activity with MAC, and hopefully trying out some of our newly learned cheers during lunch. […]

Hello! We wanted to give you all an update on the adventures happening with our 4 two-week trips this session. They are all going really well, and we have had consistent check-ins from all of them. Our trip leaders made sure to manage the heat and be extra conscientious of hydration during their first week. Many of our trips are transitioning into a different activity today, and we have a great photo of our Adirondack Hike and Climb trip grabbing a bite to eat, fresh from the trail, on their way to their rock climbing site! Our Maine Coast campers are starting their first day of kayaking today, after a […]

Despite the heat, Adventure Village is having even more fun than ever. You can see by all the creek photos that we’re spending a lot of time wading and splashing in the water. Fairy house making, rock painting, and fire building all pair well with chilling by the creek! We got a slight break from the heat yesterday and took the chance to celebrate the 4th of July by doing what Adventure does best; going on a hike and searching for Adventure! We had groups that found the old plane crash on the top of Doubletop Mountain, after hours of bushwacking, and groups that went to nearby Giant’s Ledge and […]

Our adventure trips left early this morning after packing out and all yesterday. They’ve had great fun team-building, getting their gear together and coming up with delicious backcountry menus for their coming days. After handing them their bright orange whistles– a tradition of the Adventure program–we bid them farewell. They headed off to Maine, to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, to the Long Trail in Vermont, and to the Adirondacks for an assortment of backpacking, kayaking and climbing. We’ll be checking in with them briefly every night but in general no news is good news! We’re so excited for them and all the lessons they’ll be learning and fun […]

As Sunday approaches, we here in the Adventure staff are getting more and more excited welcome you and your kids to camp. Many of us have been here for two or three weeks, training and putting in place a program that will help your kids to have an amazing summer. As directors, myself (hello! I am Tori, one of our Trips Logistics Coordinators), Jesse (our other Trip Logistics Coordinator), Russell (our assistant director) and Zach (our fearless Adventure Director) have been planning this summer for months. And now it’s all about to happen! Our whole staff embarked on our training trip last week to the Adirondacks for canoeing and backpacking. […]
