We love our theme days here at Day Camp and one of our favorites is Pajama Day!!! All the kids and counselors showed up in some comfy and sometimes quite silly pj’s.  There were even staff and campers that bought along their fuzzy sleeping companions to camp.  It was great to see all of camp really get into the day.

Taking a trip to the Frost Valley Farm has always been a favorite among campers and counselors alike.  It is so nice of the Farm to open its doors to our Day campers.  They love learning about the various fruits and vegetables that grow in the garden.  They all seem to get a kick out of picking and eating the food right from the source.  It is such a treat for the kids to see and pet the many animals that live there. Thank you to Andy and the rest of the Frost Valley Farm staff for making our Day campers have such a memorable experience.

Who doesn’t wish that they were a princess? And what is a princess without a crown?  As you can see everyone was in on the fun at the princess specialty.  The campers who chose this specialty will be making jewelry, face painting, and having a cupcake dance party to end their week.

Duffy is a guy who wears many hats.  He is technically one of our bus drivers, but he really is just so much more. He drives the Phoenicia bus, which is better known as the “Party Bus”, in the morning.  Then if he is not going off on trips with the Teens or Tweens he helps run programs, like some of our high ropes elements.  In the fall Duffy is a Program Instructor for our Environmental Education department.  Since Duffy is a year round staff he is just full of knowledge that he willing shares with all of the staff here at Day Camp. We couldn’t be happier to have […]

The favorite time of day for most campers is of course WATERFRONT!!  The counselors can come up with the most creative games and activities, but nothing seems to compare to just having some water fun at Lake Cole. The kids love to play with all the toys on the beach.  They build sand castles, make rivers, then they build dams to block the rivers.  It is just great to see the joy on their faces as they create their castles or jump off of the water trampoline into the water.

Something new to Day Camp is our Free Play time.  This happens right when the kids get off the bus.  We want them to be having fun as soon as they step off that bus.  Free Play gives campers a choice between a few activities, such as kickball, Can Jam, parachute games, and arts & crafts. We feel very strongly about giving campers the opportunities to seek out their interests and play with campers other than the ones in their groups.

I caught this moment while walking down to the tent.  This little Explorer showed me that it’s the little things that we do for our friends that matter.  It was a great teachable moment for me and for the boy with the untied shoelaces. I always tell everyone that I meet how great a place Frost Valley is to visit and work at.  I am feeling blessed that part of my job is to capture these sweet and caring moments to share them with all of you.

Y-ties:  I am sure by now you have seen your kids coming home with colorful ribbon tied on their backpacks.  These ribbon are called Y-ties.  Each color ribbon represents a different value here at Frost Valley that we try to instill into our campers and every activity we do here at camp.  Every day we focus on one value and have the campers and staff make a pledge to represent that value throughout the day.  Their pledge ribbons get tied to the fence and then if they have followed through on their pledge they get a ribbon to take home at the end of the day. I loved seeing our […]
