The mustang girls have had a busy few days, full of activities like gymnastics, tie dye and low ropes! They have really been enjoying waterfront and of course riding. In their lessons they have had a combination of trails and arena time, which they really enjoy. They play loads of games in their arena time, including ‘what’s the time mr fox’ and ‘red light, green light’, which always ends up with lots of laughing but it is aiding in their learning too which is great! Last night the girls got to go and visit our East Valley Ranch location which is 14 miles over the mountain. It is an all […]

On saturday the girls got the chance to ride bareback which means without a saddle, which is a great learning exercise for them as it gives them the opportunity to really feel how the horses muscles work and move when they are riding them! It is also great for balance and concentration! Yesterday the girls had an awesome day playing in the sun. Hirdstock is Frost Valley’s version of a music, peace and love festival. Everyone dresses in tie dye and flowers and hangs out on the field, visiting different booths, having a talent show and just enjoying being with each other and being outdoors. Another favorite part of the […]

Yesterday and today, the Hoof Beats and Giddy Up kids have taken it in turns to do an activity called outdoor living skills which I explained briefly in the last blog. But basically it is when they go into the woods and down by the river and they learn how to do rock painting, and then they build shelters and test them out for strength and waterproofing for example. Yesterday, Giddy Up also did our ropes activity called Flying Fish which they all loved and even a few who were very nervous to do it, went and ended up loving it! Today the Hoof Beats campers are doing an activity […]

The Mustang girls had an awesome day yesterday. I was particularly impressed with their riding. They are all improving so much and it is a pleasure to watch them all falling in love with their horses and ride with big smiles on their faces. Last night they got the chance to swim in the lake as their evening program. Many of the girls had told me that their favorite time of the day is waterfront so I thought why not book waterfront twice in one day. The girls had an epic time and it was a struggle to get them to get out of the water at the end…even though […]

Giddy Up: Giddy Up have had a busy few days down at the barn, meeting their horses, learning the parts of the horse as well as breeds and colors and not to mention riding them! They all seem to get on with their horses and be happy with the ones they were assigned, we are sure the bond they have with their horses will be so strong they will want to take them home by the end of the 3 weeks! On Tuesday, they had a zumba lesson which was so funny to watch and allowed them to use as much energy as they could. We have a teacher who […]

The girls have had a busy few days, full of activities and riding and not letting the rain get in the way of having fun! They all had a go at climbing our Y tower, which is our rock climbing wall that has other ropes elements, such as the zip line coming off of it. They really enjoyed it and a few of them even made it to the top! They also did Zumba and Tae Kwon Do which was so fun to watch and a great energy release! They were all exhausted after and thought it was awesome! It was pajama day yesterday in case you were wondering why […]

My passion however, is working with kids so this is basically my perfect role! This morning the campers all got off of their buses and out of their cars, full of excitement! They headed to the barn for […]

We started off our weekend with some field games out on the soccer field. The girls enjoyed the lovely weather. Then we headed back to make a fire at out lodge and make banana boats! Bananas stuffed with marshmallows and chocolate, wrapped in tin foil, and put in the fire for it all to melt together – delicious! After lunch we had BAREBACK DAY! The girls headed down to the barn for a surprise. They all got to ride their horses without saddles! They had a lesson just like normal, but without a saddle. This helps improve the girls riding and definitely helps with the girls posture and balance while […]

So far, the girls have been enjoying our activity filled days! On Tuesday we did the Flying Squirrel which is and activity on the ropes course. They put on harnesses and, one by one, got pulled up into the air by their counselors so that they could fly! After we headed to waterfront to finish swim checks and have fun! Then, for riding, the girls were assigned their very own horses for the session! Everyone was so excited to find out their horse and riding group. Then the girls learned all about breeds and colors and figured out what colors their horse was too! On Wednesday we headed over to the climbing wall […]
