Our first full day of camp was a complete and utter success! This morning, all of our Wawayanda campers conquered their swim tests and enjoyed chicken patties for lunch. In the afternoon, Pokey Totem played Geronimo with Al, Susky Forest learned their village cheers, and Lakota Outpost signed up for specialties like Archery and Nature Art. Here are some pictures from the day!

Woowie! Wawayanda had a busy day of name games, pizza eating, and settling into camp. After we learned about the options in our dining hall at dinner, our campers headed to opening campfire for our traditional first night evening activity. In addition to watching the village staff perform their skits, we were lucky enough to hear a song from Al. Below are some pictures from the evening. We’re beyond excited for the next two weeks! Bring on Wawa 2017! -Lindsay & Hannah

Dear Wawayanda Campers and Families,   Hello from the beautiful Catskill Mountains! Summer Camp Training is in full swing and all of our Wawayanda head counselors (we like to call them Village Chiefs) are so excited to make this summer the best one yet. On Sunday night, we surprised our Wawayanda Village Chiefs by taking them to Merrill Pavilion for an Overnight full of s’mores, nature exploration, and team bonding. Since all of our campers have an Overnight experience during their time at Frost Valley YMCA, our Village Chiefs made sure to practice their pita pizza-making technique! As you’ll soon learn, Wawa is a place where we’re proud, silly, and […]

Happy Core Values in Action Wednesday, and happy last Wednesday of the Core Values in Action Year!   Over the past 8 months we have celebrated, explored, practiced, and embraced all 8 of Frost Valley’s Core Values. It has been inspiring and fun to see how the Frost Valley Community has given life to the Core Values throughout the year. In honor of the past 8 months, I would love to highlight some of our favorite stories from the year!   Caring: One of the first and favorite #CVIA stories we received was from our Outpost Campers, who were doing a project for one of their classmates who was sick. Hello everyone and happy Core Values in Action Thursday!   I hope you have all taken action to put Stewardship into Action! We are always encouraging our guests here at Frost Valley to be “green” and take what they’ve learned about Sustainability here back to home!   This week, I would like to focus on Stewardship from the perspective of the Camp Counselors that work at Frost Valley. We have an 80% retention rate for our staff, most of whom grew up as campers here at Frost Valley. The biggest reason why they want to be Counselors is to give their future campers the same magical experience that their counselors […]

Happy Core Values in Action Wednesday, everyone!   To continue exploring Stewardship this month, we have decided to challenge all of our campers and families at home to put Stewardship into Action! With the help of Katharine, the Sustainability Coordinator at Frost Valley, we have created 4 different ways for you to practice Stewardship at home! All of these different actions have a positive impact on the Earth, reducing the carbon emissions that are created. We hope that these simple things will make you think about all of the small things that you can do to give back  and be stewards to the Earth!   Here are the four challenges! […]

Happy Core Values in Action Wednesday!   To explore Stewardship, we have a story to share from one of our Summer Staff members, Elodie, who works in Susky village! She has put Stewardship into action in a big way! Here is the email she sent me:   “The amount of free time read for young children and teens has gone down the recent years. Reading has become a chore instead of an awesome hobby to learn about new things. As a young adult, I find it part of my responsibility to past the torch to the younger generation. I want to help be a part of the solution that encourages […]

Happy May!! It is the last month before summer to celebrate Core Values in Action! We have already explored, practiced, defined, and celebrated 7 of the 8 core values this school year, so I am excited to end with one of my favorites: Stewardship!   What Stewardship means to me is to give back to the place that has given so much to you. Camp is that place for me. I grew up going to YMCA Camp Hayward on Cape Cod. I spent my summers there doing many of the same activities that we do at Frost Valley, but the highlights of my time at camp were the relationships I […]

Happy Core Values in Action Wednesday everyone!   This past weekend, we Celebrated Earth Day all over the globe! Many of our Frost Valley Families, Staff and Alumni took place in Earth Day events, to celebrate and pay it forward to the beautiful place we call home. Taking action on Earth Day to make the world a more sustainable and protected place is such a great way to take responsibility for the impact we have as humans on the Earth. As a human race, we need to take responsibility for the impact that our actions have on our Earth. Giving back and volunteering are great ways to do that.   This […]
