What is the vaccination policy for Summer Camp 2022?

Unless mandated by the Department of Health, Frost Valley WILL NOT require campers to be vaccinated for COVID-19 for Summer 2023, but we are STRONGLY RECOMMENDING parents get their children vaccinated. We will work with the New York State Department of Health, CDC, and American Camp Association to stay updated on guidelines.

Will a Covid test be required for camp?

At camp, Covid-19 testing requirements differ for campers and staff members. Please find the relevant information below:

For Campers:
    • Families arriving at camp by car or bus must present proof of a negative rapid Covid-19 test taken on the same day, within 6 hours before their arrival at camp. We recommend testing multiple times during the week leading up to your arrival day for added safety.
    • Proof of the negative test should include a time-stamped photo, and families will be asked to sign to confirm that the test belongs to their camper.
    • If you arrive at camp without a negative Covid-19 test, you will be required to take one before proceeding with the check-in process.
For Staff Before Camp:
    • All staff members must arrive at camp with a negative rapid Covid-19 test. The test should be taken on the day of their arrival.
    • Staff members arriving by plane will be asked to test upon landing.
    • Similar to campers, we recommend that staff members test multiple times during the week leading up to their arrival day.
For Staff During Training:
    • Staff members will be tested weekly until the final week of training.
    • Staff members arriving by plane will be asked to test 3-5 days after their arrival.
    • All staff members will undergo testing during counselor week on day 3 and the day before camp begins.

Will masks be required at camp?

At camp, masks will be required indoors if you have had direct contact with a positive Covid-19 case. This means that during any indoor activities, such as moving within the dining hall or engaging in hangout moments inside the common room of the lodge or non-sleeping moments in the cabin, masks must be worn if you have been in close proximity to a positive case.

Additionally, masks may be worn if any symptoms of illness are present. Wearing masks in such cases helps to maintain a healthy camp community by reducing the potential spread of illnesses.

What happens if there is a positive Covid-19 case at camp?

In the event of a positive Covid-19 case at camp, immediate actions will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff. If your camper tests positive while at camp, you will be promptly notified and must arrange to pick them up within 12 hours. This policy also applies to campers who arrived at camp by bus. In such cases, the affected camper will be taken to an isolation room located in the Wellness Center until their pickup is arranged.

It is crucial that you have designated an authorized pickup person who is readily available to collect your camper within the 12-hour timeframe in the event of a positive test result. Please immediately contact the camp registrar’s office if you need to update your emergency contacts or authorized pickup individuals before check-in day. You can reach them by calling 845-985-2291 ext. 203 or by emailing campregistration@frostvalley.org.

If you have been identified as a close contact of a positive case, mask-wearing indoors will be required. This applies specifically to high-volume, common spaces including indoor activities within the dining hall and any moments spent inside, such as the common room of the lodge or non-sleeping moments in the cabin. An email notification will be sent to all families identified as close contacts, providing them with the necessary information and instructions. Cabins and bathrooms will undergo thorough cleaning and disinfection procedures, ensuring a clean and safe environment. Additionally, staff members will remain vigilant in monitoring campers and themselves for any symptoms of illness, taking necessary precautions to maintain a healthy camp environment.

Families can decide whether to test for Covid-19 if severe symptoms arise or on days 3 and 6, even in the absence of symptoms. Otherwise, we will continue to monitor all campers and staff for any symptoms.
