Each of the following trips empowers young women to become leaders with support from their peers, giving them hands-on experience learning wilderness skills. Campers share their collective experiences as young women growing up in today’s world and learn from excellent female trip leaders how to navigate both the trail and life.

NEW! Young Women’s Leadership Trip – Adirondack Hike and Climb (Grades 7-8)

The Adirondack Hike and Climb trip is an introductory trip for the adventurer at heart. Campers will learn backcountry camping skills like orienteering, fire building and low impact camping. Campers will also test their limits and find the value of teamwork while hiking and climbing some of the highest peaks in New York. The beautiful and remote Adirondack Park is the perfect place to build confidence and leadership, disconnect from society and enjoy some of the most stunning vistas in the Northeast!

Level: Introductory

Age: Entering 7th and 8th grade

Duration:12 days total (9 days on trail)

What: Backpacking and Climbing

Where: Adirondack Park

Requirements: Willingness and interest by the participant to be immersed in nature and the camping lifestyle. Camping experienced not required.

Young Women’s Leadership Trip – Adirondack Paddler (Grades 7-8)

The Adirondack Paddler is for the water-loving adventurer looking to develop their paddling skills and themselves. From paddling small streams, to large lakes, to whitewater this trip offers opportunities to build confidence and leadership in addition to mastering paddling. **Participants must be comfortable in water and know how to swim**

Level: Introductory

Age: Entering 7th and 8th grade

Duration:12 days total (9 days on trail)

What: Canoeing, Whitewater Rafting and Sea Kayaking

Where: Adirondack Park

Requirements: Willingness and interest by the participant to be immersed in nature and the camping lifestyle. Camping experienced not required.

Young Women’s Leadership Trip – Long Trail Backpacker (Grades 8-9)

Join us as we hike the beginning portion of the Vermont Long Trail. The Long Trail is a 272-mile footpath that travels from the Massachusetts-Vermont border to the Canadian border. This trail climbs rugged mountains and passes pristine ponds, hardwood forests, and beautiful streams. Join us on an adventure of a lifetime as we tackle sections of Vermont’s Long Trail.

Level: Intermediate

Age: Entering 8th and 9th grade

Duration:12 days total (9 days on trail)

What: Backpacking

Where: Vermont

Requirements: Willingness and interest by the participant to be immersed in nature and the camping lifestyle. Camping experience with Frost Valley YMCA or other program preferred but not required.

NEW! Young Women’s Leadership Trip – Maine Trail Builders (Grades 9-12)

Maine Trail Builders is for the adventurous camper who wants to develop leadership; learn to be a steward of our public land while creating deep bonds with your trail crew. On this trip, campers explore the beautiful area of Acadia, Maine, as they help maintain trails and complete service work with the National Park Service. Digging in the dirt, trimming trees and doing various other projects around the park, they will earn up to 35 hours of community service. On days off, they’ll climb cliffs above the ocean and hike the highest peaks, knowing that the hard work of people just like them makes adventuring in the park possible.

Level: Intermediate

Age: Entering 9th and 12th grade

Duration: 12 days total (9 days on trail)

What: Camping, Trail work

Where: Acadia National Park

Requirements: Willingness and interest by the participant to give back to a community in need. Open to the camping lifestyle.

Young Women’s Leadership Trip – White Mountains Hike & Climb (Grades 9-10)

Travel to the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire and experience some of the most amazing vistas on the East Coast. Backpacking and climbing in the White Mountains offers challenging experiences that build confidence, character, and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Age: Entering 9th and 10th grade

Duration:12 days total (9 days on trail)

What: Backpacking, Climbing

Where: White Mountains National Forest, New Hampshire

Requirements: Willingness and interest by the participant to be immersed in nature and the camping lifestyle. Camping experience at Frost Valley YMCA or with other program preferred.
