Carnival Theme Day and Harvest Day

Saturday at the Farm was Carnival Theme day! Morning chores and flag raising were still part of our routine but after breakfast we launched into some exciting carnival-style booths. Whether it was face painting, pie throwing, or a photo booth, campers had a blast running around trying to earn tickets for prizes. We even had a massive water fight with sponges for people who wanted to cool off and, for people feeling like their future is a little too ambiguous, our resident fortune teller offered his clairvoyant services. Later in the afternoon, the counselors put on a goat and chicken talent show for the campers. It’s hard to say whether the goats or the campers had more fun! After dinner, we had a good old fashioned hoedown where campers and staff dressed up in their overalls, straw hats, and bandannas to do some square dancing and non-square dancing.

It’s a beautiful, sunny Harvest Day at Farm Camp! We kicked off the day with a brunch that included chicken, waffles, broccoli, and ICE CREAM! Delicious! After brunch, campers and their counselors reflected on the theme of the summer: Take Time. As the yurt groups split off, each camper got the chance to talk about what the theme meant to them and helped decorate a yurt flag to add to a banner for all of Farm Camp to see. On Harvest Day, campers get to harvest fruits and vegetables from the garden and then they are responsible for preparing tonight’s feast. Campers love making salads, raspberry lemonades, and brownies for dessert. While the yurts are waiting their turn to chef it up, campers can participate in activities like archery, boating, leather stamping, or friendship bracelet making.
