As you know, we compost all of our food waste and we have a robust recycling program throughout camp. And now, thanks to support from our food service provider, Chartwells, as well as a new agreement with Ronnybrook Farm Dairy, our condiments are no longer offered in plastic containers and milk is no longer supplied in individual cartons. Throughout the year, we are careful to collect all of our fluorescent light bulbs, electronics, and rechargeable batteries for proper recycling. Not only do these products contain typically recycled materials such as glass and plastic, they also contain heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium, or lead that are harmful to wildlife and water quality if improperly released into the environment. When you think about the number of buildings (over 100) and staff (also over 100) generating these recyclables at Frost Valley, it’s easy to imagine how these items add up! On Monday, December 14th, 14 Frost Valley staff members attended an educational presentation by Barry Carr from Clean Cities of Central New York and Don Winner from Johnston’s Toyota. Both Barry and Don educated the group on the electric car industry, including the different electric vehicles on the market, the various types of charging stations, and the incentives associated with owning an electric car. They also discussed how to host a charging station in your place of business.
