So, the campers first week is done.  They have been practicing all of their skills that they learned last year.  They have built so many cooking fires, crossed moving water, built shelters, navigated though the mtns, climbed, rappelled, and much more….    This all leads up to their 4 day overnight that starts on Monday morning.  With a possible mix of rain and sun, their skills will be put to the test as they make their way over and through some of the Catskills peaks.  Some of those are not on a trail.   The campers all came together to plan their route on a map, their meals, their overnight locations, […]

Its been a great couple days.   The campers are really coming together.  Check out the other photos shared through https://frostvalley.smugmug.com/  The Campers have learned fire building, water purification, shelter building, navigation, some rock climbing, rappelling, and definitely some miles under their feet hiking.   Wednesday started their survival overnight…   With the help and support from each other, they will complete their journey…    even with smiles still on their faces.

Monday consisted of quite a bit of refresher for our campers.  They revisited lessons on fire building, water purification, traps and snares, hiking, river crossing, and shelter building.  Tuesday, we got rained out of our “Mountain Day”, but that time was spent focusing on Map and Compass reading.  They will be planning their trip for next week.  That means figuring out food, routes, time, camping spots, pace, entrance and exits points for their multi-night survival experience.  They are confident, educated, and ready to get at it.   Great group of young people.
