EVR – First Days!

On Sunday everybody was so excited for all of our campers to arrive and for session three of EVR to begin! Everybody moved into their yurts, got to see old friends and make new ones too!! Everybody had time to get to know each other, make bunk name signs and play name games. Our first meal of session three was PIZZA, which everyone of course everyone loved! We had our opening campfire where we sang lots of campfire songs, and each yurt performed a skit to everybody else. Everybody got involved and the skits were so funny! We also had individual performances where the girls got to show off their own talents. We got to see ukulele players as well as singers and gymnasts, all were brilliant!! And could there be a campfire without s’mores?! We roasted our marshmallows and made our own delicious s’mores of course!!

Monday morning the girls begun there first full day, and loved it straightaway! Monday was our evaluation day, which everybody was excited about because that means riding horses! This was a chance for the girls to get into the saddle again, or ride a horse for the very first time and see what it is like! This gives Megs an idea of which horse each camper would be best suited to for the session. The girls got to meet all of our horses and also learnt about how we groom, tack, lead and tie our horses!

In the afternoon we continued our evaluation day rotation activities so everybody had their chance to ride and learn about the horses and the barn! We also managed to get a chance to go creaking in the stream, where the girls created mini stone towers and used rocks to make rock face paint. After this we were busy having so much fun that the rain couldn’t even keep us down! We got to play Geronimo, which is a game where everybody has a seat except one. It’s a game of speed and everyone switches seats – the campers always love it and it is always one of the most talked about activities!! Our evening program last night was killer in the basement, which everybody really enjoyed!! We hand out a deck of cards, with only one King of Spades, and whoever gets that card is the killer. The lights go off and everybody walks around, the killer makes an X mark on people’s backs and then everybody has to ask if people are alive to find out who is dead and then discover who was the killer!! It was so much fun and everyone enjoyed being detectives!

EVR is already in full swing of our third session, and they were all very excited to find out their horse assignments for the session this morning! They all got to meet and ride their own horse this morning, and had a ground lesson (a time where they can learn about the horses, but from the ground). Their ground lesson was about different parts of the horse, which they then put into practice at the barn using the horses! The girls are already really enjoying learning lots and there are lots of other fun things to come!
