Full day of Fun in Adventure

After a day of orientations and get to know you games, it was time to dive into some actual activities. We started our morning off learning the hard skills that we will be using during our mini-trips. We split into groups learning how to use a map and compass, tying knots and setting up tarps, building fires and learning our Leave-no-Trace principles. These are just some of the skills that Adventure village will gain this summer and bring home this summer.

We then gave our minds a break and spent the afternoon at waterfront and exploring the Biscuit Brook with some creeking. Creeking is such great way to get our campers to be curious and ask questions. Whether its turning over rocks to see what is under it or trying to figure what cool new color you can make with rock paint, it gives the camper a chance to ask questions which is extremely important.

Who can create the best color with rock paint?

Things then slowed down with a nice campfire at Project-X, a secret overnight spot, where we shared stories, started life long friendships and ate some smores. Nothing ends a day better than a nice campfire for all to reflect.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
