Adventure Village rises again! Session I, 2008

Things have settled in adventure village, campers are settled, our tents were named and we’ve kicked off the official first session of summer camp 2008 without a hitch. Opening day we made sure everyone had proper sleeping gear and were assigned their cabin mates, this proved to be a very relaxed day with kids meeting each other & doing icebreakers. Monday things picked up with a camp tour and swim checks in the am with a big volleyball game just before lunch. After lunch there was a hike to High Falls, Frost Valleys very own waterfall. Tuesday’s open activities kicked off with the campers picking from Climbing, Hiking and Canoeing! That afternoon included activities such as Low Ropes, Cable Bridges, Outdoor Living Skills, and a tour at our Raptor Center. It seems as though every class was a hit, which is great for thecampers and for the staff.

Everyday this week starts off with breakfast at 7:45 then they go back to Adventure Village to do a morning dedication or devotion. A dedication consists of a quote of the day and everyone going over a goal for the day. Then they split off into their classes which they pick. Today (Wednesday) was the first full day, where they programming was entirely up to Adventure Village. We started (after dedication) with a trip to the waterfront, which lead to the after noon of open activities, which included Mountain Boarding (a big hit with our skateboarders), ending the day with a game of USB (Ultimate Sicko Ball).USB is a big game of capture the flag, with 6 teams, Adventure Village is one of those teams (40 people), just to give you an idea of how huge this game is. Everyone loves USB and is a game where there is tons of participation by everyone in the village. This evening finished up with a (surprise) movie, Fern Gully! For those of you who remember that one, it’s a great G rated film, which everyone enjoyed. We ended the night withindividual tent devotions and that catches us up so far. Today’s weather was amazing the kids were enjoying the outdoors and it seems that everyone is going to sleep very well tonight, you really couldn’t ask for a better day.

A few extra notes: Devil Sticks! Wow they are a huge hit with the campers. Big thanks to the camper who brought those!
