3 canoes on lake cole

Back on solid ground

After some cool but pleasant weather, the Maine Coast crew has arrived back in Acadia National Park for their final night in Maine. The latest leg of their adventure began on Sunday morning as they joined Coastal Kayak Tours for some sea kayaking just off the coast. Once they arrived at their destination they took part in a brief paddling clinic with their guide. Then the packed up their gear in the tandem kayaks and, along with their partner, paddled to their first island campsite. Their last few days have been filled with picturesque shorelines, island campgrounds, and some of the best paddling in the U.S. As if this wasn’t enough, they also had some visitors during one of their paddles. Seals got curious about the boats and popped their heads up to see what could possibly be gliding along the water so smoothly. After some parting splashes, the seals left the group to their journey. Time in the campsites went by slowly as everyone watched the tide roll in and then fade out again. The worries and troubles of their other lives were forgotten, at least for a little while.

The morning will be an early one as they depart Blackwoods Campground and begin the long drive home. Once they arrive back at Frost Valley they will get cleaned up and have time to enjoy a final night with their trip mates. Pick up at Frost Valley on Friday begins at 11 am, so get here a few minutes early if you want to beat the crowd. You will be directed to the Main Dining Hall and can find your child at the Adventure table. Thank you for allowing your child to be a part of this stupendous group. Don’t forget to check back in a few days and follow the link to our Flickr site where you can view all of the photos from the trip. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please contact Kevin at (845) 985-2291 ext. 265 or kterrell@FrostValley.org.

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
