Kickin’ off with blue skies and new friends!

Third Session is underway! Adventure Village and Adventure Trips are in full gear, and the sun is shining bright in cloud-free skies. The first full day of camp is coming to a close, and all is well!

Adventure Trips departed early this morning to their beautiful and wild destinations, eager to embark on their extraordinary journeys. Although some of their drives were long they are now safely in camp, enjoying the majestic scenery of the Adirondacks, White Mountains, and Catskills. Tomorrow will bring the real start to their adventures, offering new experiences and opportunities to grow as a group and as individuals.

Adventure Village had a fulfilling day of bonding, excitement, and fun. Waking up in the beautiful Catskills, adjacent to a gently rolling creek, many of our campers had their first taste of life at Frost Valley.

They began the day with tent time, an opportunity to just hang out and get to know their new tent-mates and neighbors. There was much laughter, and the formation of bonds that will last far beyond their experience at Frost Valley. In the late morning our campers were described their Mini-Trips, 3-night expeditions that they will later embark on. The campers then chose the trips they most desired to take part in, a choice between backpacking, canoeing, and rock climbing. In the afternoon, Advill took their swim tests at the waterfront, proving their abilities in our lake. A hearty dinner of Ziti followed, and our campers filled their bellies before heading out to play an evening game. As I write this they have headed over to a building over by the reflection pond to play “Killer in the Castle”, where the goal is for the group to identify the person who has been secretly targeting members of the group with a sininster handshake.

Later this evening, they will retreat back to the village for a full nights’ rest in preparation for the myriad of activities happening tomorrow. Laying down to sleep next to their newfound friends, their dreams will be made pleasantly vivid by the sounds of the forest night and the flowing brook nearby. Until tomorrow, Adventure Village and Adventure Trips bid you Goodnight!

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
