Mustang Bareback Day!!
To start our morning off we practiced our aim at the archery range. The girls really enjoyed channeling their inner Katniss Everdeen! After everyone had a chance to shoot, we headed back over to Hayden Lodge for chill time and activities period.
Turkey burgers were on the menu for lunch, which filled us up and gave us all of the energy we would need for BAREBACK DAY!! The girls had riding lessons without saddles today, which helps them to improve their riding by focusing on their positions and balance. Everyone also painted their faces! The markings of their horses were much requested. After faces were painted, everyone cooled off from the hot summer sun by washing a few of the horses!
Later we demonstrated a training technique that we use here at Frost Valley called “join up.” They really enjoyed watching their instructors working with a horse to form a relationship based on trust. Once they gained each other’s trust, the horse would then follow the new “lead horse” in their herd (the instructor). To round out their afternoon at the barn, the girls were able to watch the barn staff turn out the horses and learned about herd behavior.
Dinner tonight was spaghetti, which means EAT WITH YOUR FACE NIGHT!!!! Everyone had a great time getting spaghetti sauce everywhere and making each other laugh. They almost won the contest for the messiest faces in the dining hall – and there was some pretty tough competition.
We finished out the evening with games and friendship bracelet making. Devotion tonight was pretty special, as we had some guest counselors and the girls were able to anonymously ask questions to learn a little bit more about the staff members they spend every day with!
We can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s theme day will bring…!
