Adventure Village left for trail this morning. Bright and early our two Adirondacks trips left first at 6:30 AM. An early start is imperative in the wilderness, and especially the Adirondacks. We call it voyageur starts, in reverence to the old French Voyageurs who explored northern Canada in canoes. The voyageurs used to rise with the sun and rest when it fell. For us it means we get to our campsites by early afternoon, giving us our pick of the sites, and we can take our time cooking dinner before bed when it gets dark.
The Catskills backpacking trips departed second. One trip will march through the Eastern Catskills for a stretch of the Escarpment Trail, while the other trip will summit peaks in the Slide Mountain Wilderness. Both trips boast breathtaking vistas and lifetime memories.
After the backpackers, canoers, and the Catskills Park hikers left the On-Camp backpackers departed. This backpacking trip is designed to utilize our 5000 Acre property and explore the trails we have here. They’ll go way up Doubletop Mountain first then swing back down over the ridge into the other valley before finally summiting the crest of the adjacent ridge and spending their final night basking in one of the most amazing vistas in the entire Catskill mountains.
Finally the climbing trip departed this morning. They are usually the last to leave on departure days. This is because the climbers don’t need to hike far to get to their campsite. Today they’ll be exploring the climbing locations and learning some off-wall climbing basics before hitting the rock walls full speed tomorrow. Our two professional NY Rock Climbing Guides will share their knowledge and love for the sport as the campers rotate between climbs and belaying responsibilities.
All trips are expected back to camp on Wednesday afternoon. We will not be posting blog entries until Wednesday. Of course if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
