Out of the woods, and into the…

Boots n’ Boats

Saturday morning found the Boots & Boats crew hiking out of the High Peaks and preparing for the canoeing portion of their trip. They met up with the Adirondack Rambler (who just came off of the water) and Kevin at the Tupper Lake boat launch to repack gear in dry bags and get their food for the next 5 days. They were in great spirits with the sun shining and the clothes smelling WONDERFUL! There were stories of falls in the mud, much appreciated lean-to’s, and beautiful views. Then it was into town for a few slices of pizza at Guido’s. It is always fun to be with a group in the woods and hear them talk about how great food tastes on the trail. Then they get a slice of pizza in front of them and it becomes, “…the best thing I have ever eaten!” With stomachs full and canoes packed, they began their paddle down Long Lake. Saturday and Sunday nights were spent camping along the shores of Long Lake, and today will bring them into the Raquette River and to their only portage. They will continue down the Raquette River until they reach Tupper Lake on Wednesday afternoon where I will be picking them up. I’ll leave you with a couple of pictures from the trail. Look for a final update on Thursday night.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
