Popcorn Kings

Today was a beautiful day overall! The weather was perfect, sunny, and not too hot or cold, and lots of exciting things are happening. The village started off the day with a game called Popcorn King, brought to us all the way from Armenia. It is a game of strategy, skill, and teamwork to see which group can cook the most popcorn over a fire in the given amount of time, while also protecting your popcorn from the robbers of other teams. It was such a good game!

Then after lunch, there was yet another successful meeting of ‘the council’ which will remaining a much loved Adventure Village specialty. A few campers also got to try to climb our Giant Ladder or our high ropes course!

By mid-afternoon, it was time to pack up and head out for the overnight! The village will take a short walk away from the main part of camp and find a nice spot to settle in. They’ll have classic pita pizzas for dinner over a fire, and sleep out under the stars.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
