The Summer Sun is Setting

Hello folks,

Tonight we Blog for likely the last time this summer. 2013 has been an amazing and eventful summer, and the memories will last a lifetime. All is well here at Frost Valley, and our young Adventurers have returned from their 3-night trips into the wilds of New York.

The Rock Climbing trip was the last to arrive on camp, though it was for the sake of spending their last day out continuing to climb the world-class cliffs of the Shawangunks! These brave young men and women spent three days pushing the limits of their bodies on the cliffs, with their peers cheering on. Personal bests were marked and then bested again, many climbers made it up even the toughest climbs, and at the end of it all everyone had some very sore forearms! Though it could have been used to sooth their muscles the climbers chose to eat, rather than lather their limbs with, the ice-cream they got on their way back.

The Canoeing trip on the East Branch of the Delaware, consisting of 11 boys and men, turned into an epic bro-tastic journey along the river. This group spied many Bald Eagles, and even saw 4 at once halfway through their journey. The boys enjoyed perfect canoeing weather in the deep valley in which the East Branch is nestled, playing games and eating like ravenous – boys. They came back smelly, dirty, and laughing.

The Backpacking trip did something not tried yet this summer. The hike departed on Sunday, and managed to hike ALL the way to Pete’s pavilion a valley-and-a-half away. The next day they hiked back to the Farm camp in the adjacent valley, and camped nearby. The morning after that, the group rose with the sun and proceeded to march back to Frost Valley in time for breakfast at 8am! This was truly a group of all-stars, bushwhacking and exploring to get to their various destinations, and hitting their marks precisely. They were the first group back, and gorged themselves at the breakfast table.

With all of the groups back, Advill is spending their final days of 2013 together. They are now hanging out, regaling their peers with stories of their trips, sitting by the fireside. only 1 full day remains, but rest assured they will pack it with fun. But for tonight, just back from their adventures, they will rest in heavy sleep tonight, with the moon and stars watching over them.

Zach eigenbrodt

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
