Sailing is going super well so far! The first day turned out to be pretty windy, so the group practiced with some of the new vocabulary and general “on deck” skills, while the sailing instructors took more control of the craft. Yesterday and today saw the group members sailing their own crafts (in groups of two or three), and “packing” around the buoy obstacle courses set up for them. Some of the skills learned so far include vocabulary, what to do if the boat capsizes, how to rescue a person if they go overboard, packing and driving, and general lake safety and ethics. The food has been tasty, and everyone is taking turns being the Leader of the Day and helping the trip leaders with decision making and day-to-day tasks.
The trip staff wanted to give a shout out to the group as a whole, as every member has offered to help the sailing instructors pull the boats in and collect PFDs not only for the Frost Valley group, but also for some of the younger kids in the sailing program as well.
Tomorrow wraps up the final day of sailing before everyone transitions into biking and hiking. Vermont is such a lovely state to be in!!
