Mustangs First Solar Eclipse!
This weekend what wild! Mustang did so many new things in just the space of two days. Saturday started off with tie die at the barn. The girls tied up socks, pillow cases, t shirts and bandanas. They placed bands in certain places and twisted their items in different ways before spraying them with 8 different colors. The girls are very excited to show you their colorful creations. After that we had some water games with our brother village Durango. We spent the whole morning down the barn doing these activities and everyone loved it. After lunch and a much needed rest hour it was time to head to the barn to do bareback day! They had a chance to have a lesson without their saddle to experience how horses feel without that huge saddle. Some of the girls were very nervous but survived the whole lesson! They also had a go at show grooming. Some of the staff here has certifications in this and Mustang loved learning how to braid and make rose buds in their manes. This was followed but a lovely hay ride down our Neversink trail. They just watched the river, sang songs and just had some down time! It was perfect. The evening activity was the Wawayanda dance! The whole of Wawayanda gathered on the hard courts to play ball, dance, play gaga and just hang out with their friends. It was a perfect end to a perfect day!
Sundays are our theme days and this session it was Hirdstock! Hirdstock is Frost Valleys version of the Woodstock festival. They spent their morning eating ice cream and waffles. Followed by a double rest hour before heading to Hird field. On the field, each village made a stall. Mustang and Durango had a lassoing stall and they were very proud to see their village names! They had the freedom to head off and try everything at each stall before all coming together for the performances. We had singers, drummers, dancers and everything in between! They even watched one of the horse barn counselors sing!
Today was back to normal with lessons and activities but today was also a super special day as it was the day of the solar eclipse! Frost Valley purchased thousands of solar eclipse glasses so that everyone could safely watch! The girls came off their horses for five minutes to watch the moon cover the sun and they were amazed! Really great to see them so interested. Who knows when we will ever see one again!
