Opening Campfire Session 3
Last night was our opening campfire. This one event sets the tone for the next 2 weeks of camp. Many campers come in with some set of preconceived expectations of what camp will or won’t be like. This is our one chance to prove to them that even though we are adults and that “real” civilization (cell phone service and such) is far away we can have a really good time. Having a good time with nothing but an imagination and a few friends is a bit of a lost art, but that is exactly what opening campfire is all about. I really enjoy this time of shedding off the façade of being “cool” and everyone just being who they really are, because that is what camp is all about. Judging by the smiles, laughter, noise level, and overall feeling around the fire I would call last nights opening fire a burning success.
Farm on,
John
