Opening Campfires and First Day Activities!

Session 4 has started and it almost feels like fall. There’s a nice chill in the air and it is definitely getting darker earlier than normal, giving some great ambiance to the opening campfires we had yesterday. Sacky and Hemlock met with our MAC villages for a night of performances followed by S’mores. Tacoma and Lenape did the same, as did Pac and Windsong. This was after an exciting day of meeting new friends at check -in!

Today was just as exciting. Our villages all took time to learn cheers that they will use at Hoopla (a big cheering competition that happens at the end of each lunch). Everyone met for 4th period at the waterfront to take our swim tests and to start splashing in the lake. In between those activities, Windsong found some time to do Geronimo with Al (Al is one of our trustees and Geronimo is a big game that is similar to musical chairs with some extra rules).

Tacoma and Lenape also spent some time with MAC Boys this afternoon playing a giant game of caterpillar tag (when someone gets tagged they link elbows with the person who tagged them and it keeps going until everyone gets caught). It was great for the campers in all 3 villages to get to know each other a little bit better!

The last thing I wanted to highlight is a very exciting project that our maintenance department have been working on all summer. All of the roads on property were named after our core values (we have 8 of them: respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, diversity, stewardship, inclusiveness, and community). Maintenance has been working on hanging street signs around property and they are finally done! The signs look awesome and I am really excited for campers to be able to say that they live on the corner of Respect Way and Diversity Drive.

Morgan Theze

Born in New York but raised in Ireland, Morgan has spent every summer he can remember flying back to the US to attend summer camps. Over the years that Morgan worked at a well-regarded private camp in Maine, he took on many roles including Cabin Counselor, Head of Rocks and Ropes, Program Director, and Operations Director. Morgan began working at Frost Valley as a program instructor in 2014, leading activities for our schools and weekend programs, before becoming our Director of Camp Henry Hird. Campers at Camp Henry Hird range in age from 13 to 16. Morgan loves working with this age group as he finds that this is the time of their life where they form into unique individuals and discover the values that they will hold with them for the rest of their lives.
