Overnights and the Hird Gets Challenged

We all had another great day in the Valley! Today saw Windsong and Pac head out on the first of our overnights. Every camper gets the opportunity to spend a night cooking over an open fire, playing games in the woods, and sleeping out under the stars. Windsong and Pac, as our oldest campers, do a two night overnight in our East Valley. Windsong will stay at Merrill Pavilion which has in incredible panoramic view of the Catskills. Pac will stay at the aptly named Pine Grove which is nestled in a thick pine forest. Tomorrow they will switch places.

In other news from our villages, everyone had their first full waterfront period today. There was free swim, the water trampoline, the water slide, and numerous boating options available for our campers.

The picture below is of Tacoma and Lenape at their evening program. They had Challenge Night with our MAC villages in the Dining Hall. Some of the challenges included ‘Best Counselor Impersonation’, ‘Hoola Hoop Champion’, and a judge non-favorite, ‘Smelliest Shoe’.

Tomorrow will see Tacoma and Lenape go on their overnights.

Born in New York but raised in Ireland, Morgan has spent every summer he can remember flying back to the US to attend summer camps. Over the years that Morgan worked at a well-regarded private camp in Maine, he took on many roles including Cabin Counselor, Head of Rocks and Ropes, Program Director, and Operations Director. Morgan began working at Frost Valley as a program instructor in 2014, leading activities for our schools and weekend programs, before becoming our Director of Camp Henry Hird. Campers at Camp Henry Hird range in age from 13 to 16. Morgan loves working with this age group as he finds that this is the time of their life where they form into unique individuals and discover the values that they will hold with them for the rest of their lives.
