Staff & Alumni Triathlon
In 2006, a handful of staff took part in a Triathlon here at Frost Valley. As we examine wellness in 2008, a few of us thought this would be a great opportunity for staff and alumni to get in shape and have some fun. So, on May 18, 2008 at 3:00 pm, we will be running what we hope becomes an annual event. The Triathlon will involve (in reverse order) a 3-mile run, 14-mile bike, and a choice of swimming half of Lake Cole (and back) or rowing the entire length of the lake and back. People are welcome to participate as individuals or as teams. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the support aspects. For more details, check back here on occasion and here’s an e-mail that went out today to all Frost Valley staff.
Katie Taylor and I are very excited to hear all of the buzz about the upcoming Staff & Alumni Triathlon on May 18. I have already heard some strategies getting thrown around and seen people training in the workout room. As part of this event, we would like to make sure everyone has good information to get in shape and be prepared for the event. To that end, there will be some special training sessions offered.
First up will be Ben Snyder leading a training on biking and general triathlon tips. This session will be Sunday, March 31st, at 3:00 pm in Victoria Hall. You do not need to come prepared for any vigorous activity.
Second, Austin Mandryk will be leading a training for everyone looking to gain some ground on their running skills. This session will be Monday, April 1, at 6:30pm in Margetts. Austin will be discussing general running tips and then hitting the streets for a short running workout.
Third, Laura Johnson will be leading a training on swimming at the Kingston YMCA. This session will be on Thursday, April 3. If you would like to carpool, please RSVP to Laura (ext. 222 or email@example.com) so she can have an appropriate vehicle to transport everyone. Otherwise, you can meet at the Kingston YMCA at 7:45pm. There will also be regular trips to the Kingston YMCA on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Please contact Laura to find out about these continuing sessions.
Of course, you do not have to participate in the Triathlon to be involved. Katie and I will be looking for folks to volunteer their time on May 18 at water stations, as timers, and for the post-event barbeque among other things. We would really love to have as many people from as many departments involved as possible, so contact Katie or I for more info or to register. If you are sending an e-mail or leaving a message, please let us know 1.) the best way to get a hold of you; 2.) if you will be taking part as a volunteer, individual competitor, or team; 3.) if you will be swimming or rowing.
And for everyone who doesn’t have the luxury of the immediate Frost Valley community for support (much love Montclair office), please check the Frost Valley Adventure blog at https://fvadventures.wordpress.com/ for details on what our trainers have to say and to keep up with the latest developments.
Again, if you have any questions or would like to sign up, please contact Katie Taylor (ext. 209, firstname.lastname@example.org) or myself (ext. 265, email@example.com). K.T. power!

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Zach couldn't keep himself out of the woods when growing up. He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature. The smiles on kids faces after returning from a once in a life time wilderness experience is why he is here today. Zach brought his talents to Frost Valley YMCA, in 2014, when he started as the Trips Coordinator and soon was promoted to Adventure Director. Zach loves all forms of Wilderness exploration, though some would say his heart lies most with canoeing.
