The Sun is out at Camp!

Adventure Village:

Rolling out of bed the AdVill campers just made it to breakfast before the bells tolled. The leisurely stroll was unavoidable for some campers who discovered that between Sequoia Village and the Dining Hall there is a breadth of tasty raspberry bushes. I guess we’ll have to account for that lost time tomorrow morning. Breakfast was classic eggs and potatos. Of course there’s options for those who are interested in something lighter: yogurt, fruit, cereal. We needed every ounce of energy from breakfast because today camp was hot! Frequent water breaks were a must and of course the serendipitous waterfront orientation.

First things first though, this morning campers selected which mini trip they were interested in taking. From there campers learned Adventure Village Cheers! It’s tradition after lunch for everyone at camp to crowd the front of the Dining Hall and scream coordinated cheers. Ask your camper if they can do any AdVill “Hoopla” cheers for you when they return. You won’t be disappointed.

After lunch campers prepared for the waterfront where they learned about waterfront safety and eventually they got to swim. The waterfront has great toys like the giant iceberg and the inflatable trampoline. Personally, all it takes for me to get happy is a Old Town canoe and a solid paddling partner. Unfortunately with all information campers needed know with waterfront orientation, paddling had to wait. But we’ll get our chance soon enough.

After dinner AdVill campers dressed in dark clothing and sunk into the woods for an evening of French Revolution. This is a great camouflage game where counselors stand in a circle with a flashlight and attempt to spot campers sneaking up to them through the dark. Totally a camp favorite.

All the action got campers perfectly ready for a great night’s rest.

Adventure Trips:

Trips were up at 6 AM to load their buses with their final gear needs and hit the road. All groups arrived safely this evening and checked in before heading to bed. The Maine trips had a long hall today and they all made it soundly in as the sun was setting over Acadia.

The Catskills Climb and Hike group, unlike the regular trips campers, hung around camp today preparing for their journey. The Climb and Hikers get to spend another day around Frost Valley planning their own backpacing route and packing out their own food. They will head to the Shawangunks tomorrow morning for their first day of climbing.

He started working at a Northern Wisconsin YMCA Camp as a wilderness trip leader while in college and fell in love with getting kids into nature.
