The Union Beach Project is a collaboration led by the Madison YMCA to offer the experience of resident summer camp to the community of Union Beach. In 2012, Union Beach was devastated by the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Many families lost their homes and their livelihood. The children of this community were effected immeasurably. The borough of Madison has pulled together to support this community in many ways.
In order to allow the children to have time to focus on rebuilding- finding new friends, spending time in nature, try new activities and makingmemories that will allow 2013 to stand out for them in so many positive ways, the Madison YMCA asked several camps to join in collaboration to provide the Union Beach families with a summer camp experience. Frost Valley YMCA, along with several other Y camps, the local schools district, the Girls Scouts, several local businesses, Quest Diagnostics, and other funding sources will make it so that any child that is a resident of Union Beach can attend one two-week session or two one-week session of summer camp an no cost to the families.
