We started off Session Four, in Camp Wawayanda, with our favorite after-dinner activity: karaoke! So far we’ve had brave solo performances, dazzling duets from new friends, and cabin-wide band debuts. Every song has ended with the roar of applause echoing through the dining hall as we cheer each other on for taking bold steps outside of our comfort zones. In addition to dinner time karaoke, we’ve also spent our time taking swim tests, having dance parties, making candles, and taking on the climbing tower. We can’t wait to jump into the rest of our first week! Our villages have scheduled camping trips, theme days, and, of course, much more karaoke […]

Saturday was full of theme days for our Wawa villages, and they have had a blast in their imaginary worlds! In Rocky, they spent the day as mythical creatures and searched for Bigfoot. Vly attended Carni-Vly—our first ever Vly Carnival! In Eagle they had bird watching theme day and they were able to find two human sized eagles, the largest eagles ever seen on Frost Valley property. Rusk village was taken over by zombies during their Zombie Apocalypse Theme Day. Finally, in Fir, they explored the life of an equestrian and took a trip to the barn to look at the horses.    It was a special day all around, […]

This week has flown by in Wawa! We’ve been trying lots of new activities, and having so much fun doing it. There have been so many great moments in Wawa this week that we decided to let the jam packed week 1 schedules speak for themselves. Here’s what Wawa has been up to!

To celebrate another beautiful day in our valley, we asked Wawayanda to share their silliest stories from the first week of camp. There were a few great sleepwalking stories; such as a camper who thought they were a T-Rex in their sleep, and another who tried to go swimming with their dog. There was a story of a dance party in the dark, in which the cabin used flashlights for decoration and brooms as additional guests. There were several courageous and goofy spider rescue missions; and last, but certainly not least, when our most excited storyteller got the chance to share his story, he thought for a moment and then […]

Today has been a beautiful day in Wawa! Our villages spent the morning making candles, going boating, playing basketball, and splashing in the creek. We took a break from activities to hydrate and eat pizza for lunch. After that we had our first Hoopla of the session, which is a time for all of our villages to shout cheers loud and proud outside, until we finish with a camp wide Wawayanda cheer all together. Later in the afternoon we did archery, capture the flag, arts and crafts, and jumped through sprinklers in the garden to cool off from the heat.  It was a great day! As the sun goes down, […]

Vly and Eagle Mountain left for their overnight camping trips today! We had consistent warm showers all morning, which cooled off the heat and brought on the mud puddles instead; but, despite the rain, the campers and staff in Vly and Eagle were excited for their trip. They got ready by packing up backpacks full of food, tarps, and sleeping bags; and then they set off for their adventures after lunch. Eagle hiked out to the “High Falls” lean-tos, cabins 49 and 50 of Vly hiked out the observatory, and cabins 47 and 48 of Vly hiked a bit further to the neighboring “Trickle Brook” lean-tos. They had great hikes, […]

Session One is off to a hot start! Both Monday and Tuesday were filled with bright sunshine, swim checks, reapplications of sunscreen, and lots of refilled Nalgenes. Our campers were excited to show off their freshly filled water bottles in our “Hydration Themed” pictures of the day. With new friendships budding all over camp and cooling rain predicted for later this week, we’re so excited for what’s to come, and we can’t wait to keep you posted too! Check in again soon to see what Wawayanda gets up to in the next couple of days.

Overnights are one of the most memorable moments of the camp experience. During staff training our counselors learn all about the technical skills that make overnight camping trips fun and successful. We teach and perfect the art of fire building, shelter building, and learn all about the 7 Leave No Trace Principles: Plan ahead and prepare Travel and camp on durable surfaces Dispose of waste properly Leave what you find Minimize campfire impacts Respect wildlife Be considerate of other visitors As a Leave No Trace Master Educator, I feel very confident that our staff are set up for success. Here are two photos of different groups enjoying fireside chats as […]

One of the coolest things about camp is trying new things. Arts and crafts is a summer camp staple, and screen printing takes arts and crafts to the next level. Here are some Wawayanda campers showing off their artwork after coming back from their screen printing specialty!

Summer 2018 is off to a great start for Wawayanda! Wawayanda is all about having fun, meeting new people, trying new things, and building community. There are so many ways we build community- like opening campfire, hoopla, and the Wawayanda Dance off to name a few! The dance-off takes place at dinner everyday and is completely optional. Kids and counselors get to sign up to dance together in a circle with a friend. Here are some photos from tonight’s dance-off between two counselors from Outpost Village. These two staff had the entire dining hall captivated and energized by their goofy dance moves!   d
